VENTEL Cell Activities



VENTEL stands for Vocational Education, Nai Talim and Experiential Learning. The VENTEL Cell was established in September 2021. This is guided by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. All faculty members attended the orientation session of VENTEL activities and collated a VENTEL Action Plan which was duly sent to MGNCRE. Various activities were conducted under the aegis of the VENTEL Cell.




1. Lessons based on Nai Talim approach:

Each student of S.Y.B.Ed gave four lessons using the Nai Talim approach. The lessons emphasized on activity based learning. They demonstrated how to make edible items like jams, savouries, sweets and nutritious snacks.

They also demonstrated how one can have have minimal waste approach by adopting kitchen gardening, composting and recycling.





2. Vocational Education:

Learning by doing, dignty of labour and development of qualities of head, heart and hand were duly emphasized through Vocational Educational inputs given by students through their lessons. They demonstrated book binding, making cloth masks, grafting of plants, terrace farming, cycle repair and many more such activities.






3. Participation in Swacch Bharat Abhiyan

Students regularly participate in community cleanliness and help to keep the beaches clean. Awareness abour minimal use of plastic is carried out. Sesnitization programmes regarding ecological issues like depletion of mangroves were organised. 



4. Community level activities

Students collaborated with Dhyaas Foundation an NGO involved in working towards clean environment. Tetrapacks, plastic waste, discarded papers and old clothes were cleaned and collected at designated collection centres so that they could be recycled and reused. This prevents acculumation of plastics in landfills.




A session was held on 14 January 2021 where Ms Kirti Shende of Dhyaas Foundation oriented students regarding easy ways to carry out composting at home.



5. Participation in Community based Action Research on Waste Management, Energy Management and Entrepreneurship Skills

Fifteen students carried out an action research on Sustainable Waste Management Practices. Each student-researcher oriented ten persons during their research by conducting online meetings and sharing inputs via social media thus helping participants to adopt ways that would help to manage waste in an environmentally friendly way. Eleven students carried out an action research on Energy Management. Each of them oriented ten participants regarding how one can conserve energy and use energy wisely. Eleven students carried an action research on Development of Entrepreneurial Skills . They gave inputs regarding how one can develop a skill set to be an effective entrepreneur. 



Fr Kiran Salve won the Best Action Research (VENTEL category) in the intercollegiate competition organised by Pillai's College of Education and Research, Chembur on 5 April 2021. He presented a paper on Sustainable Practices in Waste Management.

Students presented the Best Pratices Related to VENTEL  at a colloquium organised by Pillai's College of Education and Research, Chembur. 




6. Awareness and Action on days of environmental significance

On 22 March we observed World Water Day. Ms Michelle Ferreira presented an elaborate assembly highlighting the need to save water. Some students had prepared posters with simple actions that can make a big difference to water conservation.
